Lots of former prison inmates think of prison as hell on earth. That can be exactly the case, if you start off wrong. It won’t be easy to cope with life in prison, but learning how to survive in prison will be quite easy if you are willing to learn.
First, you should use common sense. Do not pick fights, but do not let people pick on you. If people pick on you and you don’t fight back, you will be seen as an easy target and a lot of your fellow inmates will walk all over you because of it. Also, even guards may pick on you. Fight back even though there is absolutely 0% chance of winning. You are going to lose in the long run if you don’t fight back in the beginning.
There are many sexual assaults in prison. You should be very careful and try not to appear weak vulnerable. Do not behave like someone who can be easily taken advantage of or you might become a victim of being beaten up and sexually assaulted by your inmates. As long as you keep your distance, you should be safe from sexual assaults.
You should also keep to yourself and avoid conflict if you can. Try not to interfere with other people’s affairs. If you want to survive in prison, you are going to have to learn not to anger those around. It will only cause trouble if you do. Also, you shouldn’t talk about your problems either.
Drugs are very popular in prison. Most of it is illegal, so do not get involved no matter what. You don’t want to make a habit of doing illegal drugs and having it follow the rest of your life even when you are out of prison. You can also find yourself in debt to feed your addiction, if you get into it enough. If caught, your term in prison will be extended.
Prison is very harsh. Common sense is the most important thing you need to survive life in prison. Learn from any other mistakes you make and through experience. Just following a few rules of behavior and knowing how to defend yourself is a great key to success.
